Opis projektu“Understanding Democracy – Understanding Us” – Community theatre project to study democracy The whole of Europe and the world are witnessing an increase of hate-speech mostly through social media. Humanitarian crises and troubling economical situations have made the people doubtful about the European Union and its respective decision makers. More so it has also spawned further EU scepticism, intolerance and racism. If history has taught us anything is that unstable times will lead into difficult ones which have seen democracies plunge into totalitarianism. To understand and be able to embody democracy, cultural differences and the European Union, people need to understand the history of democracy and the changes it has undergone. “Understanding Democracy – Understanding Us” is a project that aims to inspire people to embrace the democratic European Union and to take up an active role in society and decision making. The project uses creative process of community theatre to explore the history of democracy in Europe and mark out the changes that took place. The activities will consist of: • Transnational partner meetings • Study of the democratic history of each partner country • Creation of a theatre play series • Filming the plays • Social media campaign to eradicate hate-speech and heighten awareness • Workshops in schools about democracy, decision making, EU and multiculturalism. • Public events to increase the understanding of democracy.
