Since the beginning of 2015 Europe is facing а major migrant crisis. According to the UNHCR, more than 59,5 million people were forced to flee their countries of origin because of persecution, conflict, violence or human rights violations. These forcibly displaced people came mostly from Muslim-majority countries of regions south and east of Europe. The numbers have risen to amounts of the highest level since World War II. Providing asylum and meeting the basic needs of displaced people is not the only problem Europe is facing today. The flow of migrants with diverse backgrounds accelerates changes in the cultural environment within the host countries. The prompt diversification of cultures leads to positive as well as negative impact on society. On the one hand, cultural diversity could bring positive economic, social and political outcomes to a nation but on the other, it could evoke new social and political challenges. Cultural diversity may bring fear and rejection within national communities, stereotyping, racism, xenophobia, intolerance, discrimination. The project “Don't fear to differ! Empowering cultural dialogue between migrant and local communities” intends to stimulate a dialogue between different cultures. Through this dialogue, the project aims to introduce different cultures to each other and to identify similarities and differences between the groups in order to lift the fear of the unknown "other". The juxtaposition of participants viewing cultural diversity as an enrichment to those who see it as a threat will aim to create a comprehensive depiction of the sentiments in regard to migration. The interaction between diverse groups is the stepping stone to tackle prejudices and stereotyping, discrimination and marginalization. The main objective of the project is to manage cultural diversity in a democratic and non-violent way and to bridge the divide between those who perceive diversity as a threat and those who view it as an enrichment. Thus, enabling a peaceful and mutually inclusive society with a sense of community and belonging to Europe. Timetable of the project: 15 monthsKomentarz aplikującego
